Fire Safety Legislation

To ensure adequate fire safety, legislation covers the design and construction of buildings, together with the level of flammability of the furniture and furnishings used. The particular fire safety legislation issued in support of this varies according to the intended use and consequently is not always readily apparent. It may come from a number of Government Departments or other organisations. For example, the legislative authority may be part of the Home Office, the Health and Safety Executive, the European Parliament, the International Maritime Organization or the Federal Aviation Authority.
